It depends on the survey, and the first screen tells you which kind it is.

- **Anonymous survey.** The screen says "Your responses are completely anonymous". HR sees results without your name next to your answers.
- **Named survey.** The screen says "Your identity will be visible to HR". HR can see your name with your answers.

Exit surveys always show your name. Their first screen says "Your identity will be visible to HR".

## What "anonymous" covers

In an anonymous survey, your name isn't shown with your answers in results or reports. Some things are still linked to you behind the scenes:

- **Your progress.** Your answers are saved to your account, so you can stop and pick up where you left off.
- **Reminders.** Pulse knows who hasn't finished, so only they get reminders.
- **Your comments.** HR sees each comment with your department. In a small team, that can narrow it down.
- **Your other comments.** From any one comment, HR can open your other comments in the same survey. They also see your comments from earlier surveys that Pulse marked as negative. Your name isn't shown, but HR can tell they all came from one person.

## Writing comments

Your words are shown exactly as you write them. If a comment mentions your role, a project only you work on or a specific event, people may be able to tell it's you. Write what you'd be comfortable having read.

If HR replies to a comment, see [Reply to HR about your comment](/en/help/pulse/answer-surveys/reply-to-hr-about-your-comment/).
