# Appreciate a colleague

> Select Recognize on your home feed, choose who to thank, pick a badge and write a short message. Badges are a thank-you; they don't carry points.

On your home feed, select **Recognize** (or click **Start recognizing here...**). If you can also nominate people for awards, you'll be asked to choose. Select **Send a badge** under **Appreciate**.

1. **Choose who.** Search by name or email and select the people you want to thank. Most companies allow up to 50 people in one badge. Yours may allow up to 70. Select **Next**.
   - If your company uses Smart Nudges, you'll also see **No one in mind?** Select **Show moments** to see colleagues whose recent work stood out. Picking one adds that person and moves you to the next step. If there's a suggested message, it's put in the message box for you to edit.
2. **Choose a badge.** Search or pick a category, select a badge, then **Next**. The badges you see depend on your company and the country of the people you chose.
3. **Write your message.** It appears in the feed post, so say what the person did. You have up to 1,000 characters.
   - Add tags if your company uses them.
   - If you see **Add Cc**, use it to copy someone into the email the recipient gets, such as their manager.
4. **Choose who can see it.** Use the menu next to the send button:
   - **Shared:** everyone in the company sees the post.
   - **Restricted:** everyone sees the post, but only the people you're thanking see your message.
   - **Private:** only the people you're thanking see it.

   Visibility controls what appears on the feed. Recognition emails can also go to people added with **Add Cc**, and to people your company has set up to be copied.
5. **Send it.** For a private post, select **Post**. Otherwise select **Preview**, check it, then **Submit**.

The people you thanked get a notification and an email.

## If something goes wrong

**You don't see Recognize or Appreciate.** Your company may have turned appreciation off. Ask your HR team.

**"Please don't spam post. If not try again."** You sent the same badge to the same people less than a minute ago. Check the feed before you send it again.

**"More then 50 receivers are not permissible."** Reduce this badge to 50 people, or send a second badge.

**You can't find yourself in the list.** You can't give yourself a badge.

**"Not eligible, as the minimum tenure for this recognition is 6 months from DOJ!"** The badge has a length-of-service rule, and someone you chose is outside it. The number of months depends on the badge. Pick a different badge for that person.
