Answer a Pulse survey
Open the link in your survey email, select Start Survey and answer one question at a time. Each answer is saved when you select Next, so you can stop and come back later.
You can open your survey from any of these places:
- Your survey email. The link opens the survey straight away, without signing in. HR chooses the subject line. Reminders have the subject “Your Opinion Counts: Reminder to Complete Your Survey”.
- Your Vantage Circle home page. When you have questions waiting, a card says “Your voice is important to us”. Select Share Feedback. The survey opens in a new tab.
- The Pulse page. If Pulse is the only Vantage Circle product your company uses, this is where you land after signing in. It says “You have pending survey”. Select Start Survey Now.
- Microsoft Teams, if your company uses Vantage Circle there.
The link in your survey email is personal. Don’t forward it, because anyone who opens it can answer as you.
Answer the questions
- Check the first screen. It shows the survey’s name, about how long it takes, and whether it’s anonymous. See Is my Pulse survey anonymous? for what that means.
- To read the survey in another language, pick one from the list at the top. It also becomes your language across Vantage Circle. The list isn’t shown in Teams.
- Select Start Survey. The top of the page shows where you are, for example “Question 2 of 8”.
- Answer the question.
- Rating from 1 to 5: pick a number. 1 means “Strongly disagree” and 5 means “Strongly agree”.
- Rating from 1 to 10: drag the slider. Next stays greyed out until you move it.
- Multiple choice: pick one option. If the question says “Select all that apply.” or “Select up to 3 options.”, you can pick more than one.
- Written question: type your answer. Written questions come at the end.
- Add a comment if you want to. Rating and multiple-choice questions have an Add your comment box marked (Optional). A red * means a comment is required. If you pick Other, say what you mean under Please specify. The counter under the box shows how many characters you’ve used.
- Select Next. This saves your answer.
- On the last question, select Submit. A thank-you screen confirms you’ve finished. Select Go to Home to go back to Vantage Circle.
Skip a question
Select Skip Question, then pick a reason: Not Applicable, Not Sure, No Opinion or Other. The skip is saved and the next question opens. Select Cancel to close the list without skipping.
- Questions marked with a red * have no Skip Question button. You have to answer them.
- A skipped question has no rating, so it doesn’t count towards scores.
- A question you skip doesn’t come back later in this survey. To answer it after all, go back to it with Back before you submit.
Change an answer
Select Back to go to an earlier question. Change your rating or comment, then select Next to save the new answer over the old one.
- You can only go back to the questions in the set you’re answering now. Once you select Submit, your answers can’t be changed.
- Changing a multiple-choice answer doesn’t work at the moment. The screen shows your new choice, but your first choice is the one that’s saved. Check your choice before you select Next.
Stop and come back later
Each answer is saved as soon as you select Next or pick a skip reason. You can close the page at any time.
To carry on, open the survey again from your email or home page. It opens at the first question you haven’t answered. Anything you typed on the current question without selecting Next is lost.
If you don’t have a company email
- Shared link or QR code. If your company uses one, HR shares the link or puts the code up at work. Open it and confirm who you are with details from your Vantage Circle account, such as your mobile number. Your own survey then opens. It works like a survey from an email, with the same privacy rules.
- Text message. Some companies also send the survey link by text message.
- Signing in. You can also sign in to Vantage Circle and open the survey from your home page. See Sign in and get started.
Exit surveys
If you’re leaving your company, HR can send you an exit survey at your personal email address. The link works without signing in, and you answer it the same way. Exit surveys always show your name to HR.
If something goes wrong
Your answer cleared and you’re still on the same question. It wasn’t saved. This happens when the survey ends or is paused while you’re answering, or when your connection drops. Reload the page. If the survey is still open, you’ll be back at the same question.
Next is greyed out. Pick an answer first. If the comment has a red *, write one. On a written question, type your answer.
The survey doesn’t open, or shows a message instead of questions. See My Pulse survey won’t open.
