How profile badges work

A profile badge is a title on your profile for one quarter. You earn it by being in the top 10% for a company value or for an activity, such as appreciating colleagues. Badges are worked out again on the first day of each quarter.

A profile badge is a title shown under your name on your Recognition profile, such as “Top Customer Voice”. It isn’t the same as the badges colleagues send you when they appreciate you. You don’t apply for a profile badge. They’re worked out for you at the start of each quarter, from the last 90 days of activity.

You’ll only see profile badges if your company uses them. Each company has its own set. If you don’t have one yet, you’ll see Unlock Profile Badge under your name on the web.

Value badges

Each value badge is linked to one of your company’s value tags, such as #Ownership. You earn it by being in the top 10% of people recognized with that tag.

  • Approved awards and appreciation badges count. Each one tagged with the value counts once for each person it recognizes.
  • The 10% is of everyone recognized with that tag at least once in the last 90 days, rounded up. If 25 people were recognized with #Ownership, the 3 with the most get the badge.

Activity badges

Activity badges are for what you do on the feed, not what you receive. Your company may use some or all of these. Each goes to the top 10% of people who did that activity at least once in the last 90 days.

  • Top Motivator: you sent the most appreciation badges. Each post counts once, however many people it thanks.
  • Encouragement Expert: you liked and commented the most on appreciation, award, greeting and work anniversary posts. A like and a comment count the same. Posts about you don’t count.
  • Smile Creator: you commented the most on colleagues’ greeting posts, such as birthday wishes. Greetings for you don’t count.
  • Workversary Wizard: you commented the most on work anniversary posts.

When badges change

Badges are worked out on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October. Each time, everyone starts again from the last 90 days.

  • If you’re still in the top 10%, you keep the badge for another quarter.
  • If you’re not, the badge is removed.
  • You can hold several badges at once, one for each value or activity where you’re in the top 10%.
  • You can earn the same badge again in any later quarter.

If you hold an activity badge and your recent activity drops, you’ll get a notification partway through the quarter saying it’s expiring soon. Near the end of each quarter, people without Top Motivator get a reminder: “Missing out on the Top Motivator Profile Badge? Start appreciating now to earn the badge next quarter.”

Any active employee can earn a profile badge. There’s no rule about role or length of service.

Who’s told when you earn one

  • You. You get a congratulations email and a notification saying “You have earned a [badge] profile badge”. If your company uses Vantage Circle in Microsoft Teams, you get a Teams notification too.
  • Your reporting manager. They get an email listing the people in their team who hold profile badges.
  • Your colleagues, for value badges only. They get a notification: “Your colleague [your name] has earned new profile badge(s).” It goes to your department, or to the whole company if your company sends feed notifications company-wide. It isn’t based on who you interact with.

Your HR team can see who holds each badge in the Profile Badge Report.

Sharing your badge

The email has a picture of your badge attached. It shows the badge name, your name and the date. Download it and post it wherever you like, such as LinkedIn. Select View Badge in the email to open it on your profile.
