Nominate yourself for an award
If your company allows self-nomination, you can find yourself in the people list when you give an award. Your nomination goes through the same approval as any other.
Self-nomination is a company setting. If it’s on, you’ll find yourself in the people list when you nominate. If it’s off, you won’t, and the server turns away any nomination that includes you.
You also need permission to nominate. If you don’t have it, try asking a colleague to recognize you instead.
- On your home feed, select Recognize, then Give an award under Nominate.
- Search for your own name or email and select yourself. You can add colleagues to the same nomination. Select Next.
- Choose the award and its value. Only the awards open to everyone you chose are listed.
- If you’re asked, pick an approver.
- Write the Recognition Message and the Business Justification. Be specific about what you did. Approvers read the justification with your nomination. It can also appear in admin recognition reports.
- Choose who can see the post, then send it. For a private post select Post. Otherwise select Preview, then Submit.
The full set of fields is the same as nominating anyone else. See Nominate someone for an award.
What happens next
Your nomination goes to the approver, like any other. Some awards need a second approval. Nothing goes on the feed and nobody gets points until it’s approved.
If it’s approved, the post appears on the feed with your visibility choice. When you’re the only person in the nomination, the post shows your company’s recognition programme as the sender, not your name. You get the award email, with a certificate if the award has one.
Limits
There’s no set number of self-nominations. You can’t nominate the same person, including yourself, for the same award again while an earlier nomination is still waiting for approval.
Whose budget pays
The same rule applies as for any nomination. Depending on how your company set it up, the points come from your approver’s budget or from your own. If they come from yours, the whole nomination comes from it, including any colleagues you added.
If you’re also the approver
If your name is the approver, the nomination waits in your own list.
- In the panel on the left, open To-Do List and select My Approval.
- On Pending Approvals, find the nomination and select the tick.
- In Confirmation, select Approve.
For more on approving, see Approve or decline nominations.
If something goes wrong
You can’t find yourself in the list. Your company doesn’t allow self-nomination.
“You are not allowed to award yourself!” Self-nomination is off for your company.
“Not eligible, as your previous nomination for the same user is still pending!” You already have a nomination waiting for this award. Wait for a decision first.
